چکیده

The Margolus-Levitin lower bound on minimal time required for a state to be transformed into an orthogonal state is generalized. It is shown that for some initial states new bound is stronger than the Margolus-Levitin one.

Elementary proof of the bound on the speed of quantum evolution

An elementary proof is given of the bound on ”orthogonalization time”: t0 ≥ π~ 2∆E . ∗supported by the Lódź University Grants N 690 and 795 1 In many problems of quantum theory (like, for example, quantum computing [1]÷ [4] or fidelity between two quantum states [5], [6]) it appears important to estimate speed of quantum evolution. An interesting measure of evolution speed is provided by the mi...

Quantum speed limit for non-Markovian dynamics.

We derive a Margolus-Levitin-type bound on the minimal evolution time of an arbitrarily driven open quantum system. We express this quantum speed limit time in terms of the operator norm of the nonunitary generator of the dynamics. We apply these results to the damped Jaynes-Cummings model and demonstrate that the corresponding bound is tight. We further show that non-Markovian effects can spee...

The maximum speed of dynamical evolution

We discuss the problem of counting the maximum number of distinct states that an isolated physical system can pass through in a given period of time—its maximum speed of dynamical evolution. Previous analyses have given bounds in terms of ∆E, the standard deviation of the energy of the system; here we give a strict bound that depends only on E−E0, the system’s average energy minus its ground st...

Quantum speed limits: from Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle to optimal quantum control

One of the most widely known building blocks of modern physics is Heisenberg’s indeterminacy principle. Among the different statements of this fundamental property of the full quantum mechanical nature of physical reality, the uncertainty relation for energy and time has a special place. Its interpretation and its consequences have inspired continued research efforts for almost a century. In it...

The Hamiltonian H is the generator of the dynamics of physical systems. In this respect, the energy content of a system will determine its evolution time scales. For instance, the time-energy uncertainty relation states that the time it takes for a system to evolve to an orthogonal configuration in the Hilbert space is limited by the inverse of the energy spread of the system. Analogously, the ...
